Once a good cop and upstanding man, he was forced to resign due to his inability to protect his partner, Max, from taking a bullet which left him disabled.  Disturbed by the state of the society, disgraced and fallen from a position of respect and honor, Hogan Duran does what he can to survive and after four years of hardship and oppression he finally gets a break when he is offered a chance to join the National Security Council, a powerful group organized to protect the rich, prominent and wealthy elites from the unpleasant, criminal and poverty stricken part of society. But, first he must pass a test to get the job by enduring a hellish competition between other possible candidates. Here readers are introduced to some significant characters: Ruby, an unwavering determined woman who Hogan knows from his army days, Jake, a man with exceptional survival skills, Captain Beecham and General Stoker who is with the NSC. In the end, Jake wins the challenging competition. While they are on their way back to the base, they are attacked by a group called the Krails. Because of their experience in the army and quick thinking, Ruby and Hogan are able to flee the Krails and rescue General Stoker. Hogan wins the General’s approval. Hogan begins to discover that the NSC are hiding terrible secrets and quickly becomes concerned and disappointed as he finds out that the NSC is not what he had thought. He questions their secrets and methods of maintaining their power and wealth, and just how far they are willing to go to secure their position to enjoy their power, control and wealth. Now Hogan and Ruby must make a difficult choice and survive the threats that come their way.
