A Rose Blooms Among The Thorns by Cissy Hunt
Synopsis:
A Rose Blooms Among the Thorns is a religious journey through the healing of LaRae, as she struggles to come to terms with the physical and mental abuse she has endured at the hand of her husband.
A traveling nurse, she travels from city to city in the hopes of evading her husband, until she finds a permanent refuge in her late aunt’s home, and subsequently meets the town sheriff, Jason, whose friendship leads her back onto the path of trusting in the Lord.
Written with intelligence and a gift for the written word, the author takes us through the life of a young woman who is running for her life. Based on a true story, you get the best of both worlds: a truly well-written fictional work and an autobiography!
What a moving tale! A Rose Blooms Among the Thorns by Cissy Hunt is a memorable, touch your soul, Christian story. It is a must read, 5 star novel which readers will love and celebrate.
When I started reading, I thought I knew what would unfold, I was wrong. I couldn’t have predicted the second half of the book that moved me to tears more than once. Not to give you a spoiler, but when La Rae starts reading her aunties journal I was done for!
We come into the story when La Rae is on the run. I was glad not to come face to face with great details of domestic violence and applaud the author for taking me by the hand and leading me gently into her story, letting events unfold naturally and slowly, with glimpses into the past – it was enough to reveal the awfulness of being constantly afraid.
James, the controlling abusive husband is portrayed well, without theatrics or over dramatics, allowing us to read the story without reeling back in horror. This is the portrayal of an unfortunate woman who is lost in her abuse, until the Lord leads her to the place she’s meant to be. However, even when La Rae is finally free of James, she is left tormented by nightmares and fears that have a crippling effect on her life. Thankfully, she finds herself surrounded by a small group of caring friends who take her into both their hearts and home.
As a Christian, I loved the second half of this book so much, I want to tell you lots but I’m afraid it will spoil it for you! You simply must read it for yourself to see the wonder of God moving through the most horrific events.
A Rose Blooms Among the Thorns is a beautiful novel which flows from the author’s heart and her own experiences in life, just makes it even more touching. I wish I could sit down and have a cup of tea with Cissy Hunt and talk to her about her life, oh, and I would love to try some of her home-made pies that were described so well I had to go out to a bakery!
This book is inspirational, especially to women who might find themselves in the hands of a violent man. Artisan Book Reviews strongly recommends A Rose Blooms Among the Thorns by Cissy Hunt.
