Written with the deft hand of an experienced writer and award winning author, Cold Warrior by Robert Tucker is a tremendous story that packs an incredible dynamic punch for readers of historical fiction, espionage thrillers, as well as being an exciting passionate read in the women’s fiction genre. This story has many intriguing, threatening, tender and unexpected facets to it which all come together like an intricate tapestry. Robert Tucker is a clever master storyteller and always captivates me with his knowledge, unique writing style and his original imaginative, thought-provoking and enthralling stories and novels.
Kasia thought she was attending college so she could dance, act, and eventually earn a living for her family. Instead, her college career landed her in the middle of a maelstrom between the CIA and the KGB. Unbeknownst to Kasia, she’s the child of two sleeper Soviet spies who moved to the US for the purpose of supporting their homeland. When Kasia marries a film director and becomes something of a celebrity for the benefit of both the KGB and the CIA, she continues to battle both the celebrity status and the way both organizations have such a hold on her. Will she be able to live the life she’s always desired without the weight of being a double agent, or will their hold on her and her family last forever? The worry of not knowing was killing me, as I had grown to love and care for Kasia, who has a wonderful persona.
Written in a sweeping, compelling and highly educated prose, Cold Warrior by Robert Tucker has something for every reader: romance with a slow build, corruption, political intrigue, and espionage. The cold war was the perfect setting for this plot as it already houses so much fascination for many and its history contains multitudes of stimulating layers. I loved the precisely planted seeds of Kasia’s parents’ history which then led into the major plot points for Kasia. Robert excels in crafting a story rife with just the right amount of history and political knowledge and intrigue. I loved the various personalities of each character and the dynamics between them. Robert moves the plot along with intuitive and well-versed dialogue amongst the characters so well that the story never lags but instead kept me interested and fascinated from start to finish.
Cold Warrior is written with exceptional twists, turns and surprises you won’t see coming and always with a nail-biting sense of anticipation as to what will happen next. You will not put this book down, until you have devoured the very last ultra-satisfying page and absolutely perfect conclusion!
