Review:

Life in a Box by JoDee Neathery is an expressive and dramatic work of literature that readers will revel in. In it, we have the Smiths and the Browns, families that become intertwined in this realistic novel. This is an unusual book that is written with a unique voice that reverberates on every page. Andee Camp is encouraged by her mother to write a novel based on their family. Soon, Andee discovers secrets, mysteries, sorrows, loves and triumphs regarding her family’s history.

From the very first chapter, I was drawn into the mystery and storyline of this well written book. It is filled with twists and turns and clues in very chapter. But, still I was surprised and satisfied at the astounding conclusion. The pieces of the complicated puzzle all come together beautifully and completely at the end.

JoDee Neathery has composed a story that contains many layers that is easy to follow along with and understand.  It is a historical account of two complex families that are vitally connected – spanning generations. The historical facts and aspects are well researched and very informative. It’s an original family saga piece that is filled with suspense, intrigue and drama.

The characters in Life in a Box are complex and fully developed. I was surprised at how many characters there actually were, but author JoDee Neathery does an exemplary job at defining each one with interesting personalities and each are vital to the storyline and plot. There were some very colorful characters that I loved, and then some that weren’t so loveable, making for a great novel altogether.

In Life in a Box, the descriptive writing is truly remarkable with vivid scenes, sensual food and fascinating people. JoDee Neathery has a way with words that draws the reader in and won’t let go. Her descriptions are paramount and had me on the scene watching on as the story unfolded. Readers should expect a wild ride of mystery and suspense, coupled with characters that leap off the page. I couldn’t put Life in a Box down. It had me hooked from the very beginning and Artisan Books highly recommends it to all historical fiction lovers that like a large amount of mystery, suspense and intrigue in their reads.
