ā€œRegrettably, girl, you are part of that prophecy, and now that I’ve met you, I wonder if I should start making my own funeral arrangements.ā€

ā€œBoden’s novel (and prospective series kickoff) boasts a sublime young hero….The author blends taut descriptions of Norse gods and mythology with contemporary dialogue that pops….A hefty, entertaining fantasy.ā€ā€•Kirkus Reviews

Abandoned at birth and shuffled through the system all her life, Cinder is on the verge of being expelled from yet another school. Despite high test scores and uncanny talents in gym class, Cinder’s records show a penchant for fighting, defiance, impulsivity, and ā€œan unwillingness to develop appropriate decision-making skillsā€ā€•whateverĀ thatĀ means. When a lunch-time brawl breaks out in the cafeteria, Cinder gloomily prepares for what has become all-too familiar. This fight, however, won’t end like all the others.

Allfather has dispatched his Predators, an elite team of bodyguards, to bring Cinder to the Proving Grounds, where she will be broken, disciplined, trained, and given her quest directive.

Cinder may be in an alternate realm full of Valkyries, dark elves, and world-encircling serpents, but she still has a chip on her shoulder the size of Thor’s hammer, and she’s not about to let Odin or any other god push her around. Can Tristan, the galaxy’s most eligible boyfriend, help Cinder put the brakes on Ragnarƶk, or will the end of the world claim her life beneath a strip mall in Pismo, California?

About the Series:Ā InĀ The Predator’s StoneĀ series, 12-year-old Cinder Moss wants nothing more than to belong―and perhaps go three days in a row without getting into a fight. Fortunately, headlining in the starring role of an ancient prophecy foretelling the destruction of the Nine Realms, leaves Cinder little time to dwell on her misery. Odin has the most to lose (his words, not ours) and putting his trust in Cinder has him questioning his immortality.

Cinder―Stormbringer, Thronerunner, and Child of Dust―is determined to prove to Odin and all of Asgard, this is one fight she won’t lose.

Artisan Book Reviews:

Stormbringer: The Predator’s Stone, Book 1 by G.R. Boden is all about an ordinary orphan with an unordinary name. Or at least that’s how Cindrheim sums up her life until she discovers the hard way that Norse mythology actually isn’t so mythic after all.

Twelve-year-old Cinder is naturally skilled in fighting and has the tweenager defiant spirit down pat, but she never imagined how that might come in handy in another realm. After she’s whisked out of school by a strange girl, she finds herself in the ā€œproving groundsā€ where she must train before she’s given her first directive under The Allfather (Odin). There, she’ll learn her true heritage and purpose, which may or may not involve Norns, Valkyries, and the end of the world as we know it.

This is all around an extremely quality and well-written book. G. R. Boden’s writing is clever, funny, and wholly entertaining. And the cover is completely captivating. Boden’s ability to channel the thoughts and behavior of a feisty tween is so on point, you’d almost think that he is one. The book’s theme is kind of in the same arena as Percy Jackson, but this one is completely coated in Nordic mythology. And Stormbringer is different in a most pleasing way as it features a very likable, funny, and relatable female lead.

StormbringerĀ is unputdownable. It’s one of those rare gems, just like the Harry Potter series, that can be enjoyed by everyone—children and adults alike. Whether you want to get your head into some Norse mythology or just want a good, adventurous read, G.R. Boden’s,Ā Stormbringer: The Predator’s Stone, Book 1 is the book for you and comes highly recommended by Artisan Book Reviews!
