Book review:

Hidden Scars is a touching novel that reflects on past hurts and points to the light of the future.  Claire Annabel has written a lovely piece of literary fiction that was a pleasure to read.

Harvey Hadley has had his heart broken by his somewhat callous girlfriend Angela, who not only cheats on Harvey, but does so with his best friend Jim.  Now, Harvey is left without both his girlfriend and his buddy.  To enable him to remain in a house he loves, but can’t afford, his cousin Keira suggests he looks for someone to house-share with.

Wendell Pierce has had a life so far that’s been tainted with one disaster after another.  At the age of seven he lost his family in a car crash and had to face the following years in foster homes.  Not all the homes offered safe and loving environments and it seems that sorrow follows Wendell wherever he goes.  Without a job, Wendell is unable to continue paying rent in a house share that he has with his so-called friends.  When he gets told ‘no rent, no room’ he ends up sleeping in his car.

Has fate taken pity on these two men who are unable to face their sorrow and just want to hide from the world?  After finally getting lucky with a job, Wendell turns up at Harvey’s house to see about renting a room.  What follows is a lovely and touching story about how two hurting men slowly unravel their pain.  As their friendship grows, so does their confidence in the world and their ability to open up and let people in.

Shining light into the darkness of loss and sorrow, Claire Annabel writes with reflection on looking ahead and seeking the chance to hope again, maybe find love, and even rebuild your life. With well-developed characters, original storyline and plot, Hidden Scars is a story aspiring to look beyond the present moment into a future of possibilities.   Hidden Scars by Claire Annabel is recommended by Artisan Book Reviews.
